Ice-clearing Activities Along the St. Lawrence River

The St. Lawrence Seaway is operating under extreme winter conditions during the closing of this year’s navigation season. Seaway teams are working diligently in close coordination with system partners to manage the difficult ice conditions and safely process the ships remaining in the Montreal-Lake Ontario corridor of the Seaway. Priorities remain the safety of people and the protection of critical infrastructure. Until the last ship has passed, all ice fishermen, snowmobile operators, and All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) operators should refrain from using the areas where ice has been cleared to avoid numerous open water leads and unstable ice cover caused by the clearing. A notice will be issued when the navigation season is closed.
